The Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has retained AECOM Canada ULC to undertake a Planning, Preliminary Design and Class Environmental Assessment (EA) Study along Highway 401 for the replacement and rehabilitation of bridges and culverts, interchange modifications, and establishing the future Highway 401 footprint for an interim six lanes and ultimate eight lanes, from 1 km east of Hwy 2 / King St to 2.78 km west of Mallorytown. The purpose of the Study is to identify a Recommended Plan that addresses current and future transportation needs in the Study Area as part of the Ministry’s ongoing review of safety and operational needs for the provincial highway network. The Study Area falls within the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands, Front of Yonge Township, and Town of Gananoque.

The details of the proposed work will be further developed as the Preliminary Design progresses and will be presented to the public and agencies at two (2) future Public Information Centres.
